Footwork & Movement

There are different types of footwork for different types of situations. Different situations can include quick game, run game, play action, sprint out, boot/naked, under center, shotgun. It is crucial that a Quarterback understands what type of footwork is required for the situation that he is placed in if he wants to execute the play. This includes details such as when to include a hitch and when to refrain from hitching, when to slide, and when to escape. If the Quarterback can understand the why then he will understand when to apply these concepts.

Some Quarterbacks naturally have the ability to throw the deep ball and put zip on every pass but this is not everything when it comes to throwing the ball to a receiver. Arm strength is great when a receiver is wide open down the field but arm strength is a curse when you need your Quarterback to deliver a ball with touch. There are different scenarios in which I believe that it is important to teach a Quarterback how to throw and not what to throw. Quarterbacks must understand when they need to throw a level 1,2,and 3 ball and where that ball needs to be located if that is at the chest, back shoulder, outside shoulder or up-field shoulder. If a Quarterback can learn this simple principle then he will give himself the chance to dictate scenarios in a game.
